Week 4: Film Festival Spotlight
- Highlight an upcoming film festival and discuss the filmmaking process.
Today I'm writing about my latest goal. I'm making animated video shorts that I'll compile to enter into this film festival, Voices with Impact.
Each short will revolve around a few key mental health related issues. The first one was made with Adobe express.
Here
you can see all the winners of the filmmaking award; I'm really looking
forward to seeing Sue Morgan's because I suspect hers might be the most
evolved. Apparently she has a younger team member- Leanne Dimant. The name of the film she'll be doing is "Fat Hen":
Fat Hen follows Sue, an artist who began working visually during time spent in hospitals. Her artworks or ’excretions of the head’, are one way to recalibrate all she’s survived. An unexpected friendship with horticulturist Sergio unearths a newfound love of plants.

I applied to this, too but didn't expect to win because I had not figured it out in time.
Here's my first short:

It's based off of a Quora question I answered that day.
https://www.quora.com/Is-it-possible-for-someone-without-knowledge-of-psychiatry-to-diagnose-someone-with-schizophrenia-or-other-mental-disorders-based-solely-on-written-words/answer/Sandra-Cheng
I
just inserted the video for fun. Maybe it's because I'm not sure if
I'll actually enter a film into the voices with impact thing, especially
without my usual Adobe Creative suite access. Hmm...
I'd also
like to make a goal of cleaning up my place for the next three weeks
straight before deciding this- but at the end of those 3 weeks, I'll
hopefully have come up with a more solid strategy for the film. I'll
pitch the idea to my backer(s) and if they like it, I'll probably
purchase the creative cloud for one more month before the deadline to
keep myself a little more sane during this period, rather than having to
install and learn any new and less than ideal freeware.
While I have
some confidence that I can pull something together with Canva and the
like, I don't really believe I'll have the confidence to share it with
anyone without access to more tools. After finding the tool that is the default for MS (Clip Champ), I'm wavering again about whether or not to sink more money into this filmmaking idea. I'll have to schedule myself some more pre-production time, because as always, I'm behind schedule.
