The other Sandra Cheng
Have you ever received mail for you, but you didn't sign up for it?
There are so many other users with the name "sandra cheng" out there that every once in a while, one of the other ones will use my email accidentally- or possibly not. It would be so easy to use mind as a second disposable email for businesses that they don't want to hear from again.
I watched this video on why and how to stop giving your emails out to others. He says "Giving your email out is like letting hackers your street address". And he lists these two ways to prevent unwanted spam-
1) is an alternate email address, like yahoo which allows you to use aliases, knowing it's good to make the alias named after the service you signed up for so you know who's responsible. It's a 5 step process for gmail, adding alternate emails as an alias.
2) And he recommends using a disposable internet address. Two easy ones to make are 10minutemail and Guerrillamail He's also recommending that you set up a new email for side hustles.
Here's another email about privacy, and finding providers that are not collecting your data, like protonmail and tutanota. I just signed up for one, and I am not sure what my strategy with that will be yet. I suppose since I am already receiving all of my junk mail from my other emails, that this new email should not be my "disposable". I may start to route trusted emails to the new one. I'll let you know if I notice a difference.
Another reason to use these emails is that are supposed to keep you from receiving spam directly. Here's the question: does using Gmail cause your email address and name to be automatically added to advertising that is directed to you?
